ID Verification (IDV)

Biometrics is used to prove identity document ownership so that only the owner of the identity document can use it to verify their identity and access services.

Overview

The biometrics and document checks, if enabled as part of a workflow, will prompt new applicants to take a photo of their ID document as well as a selfie that’s used to prove identity document ownership so that only the owner of the identity document can use it to verify their identity and access services.

The biometrics and document check result is made up of 2 main reports.  Each report returns a result which in turn contributes to the overall entity status.

Document check

If the system is configured to accept multiple documents, you will see all of these reports for each document.

Check details

  1. Document and OCR match data

This compares data extracted via OCR from a document with user-provided or system-stored information. It verifies if the full name and date of birth match the initial personal information, ensuring the document belongs to the claimant.

  1. ID Score and OCR Score

Some providers are able to provide the numerical confidence rating for the documents submitted. ID Score is the confidence rating (59.2% in image) indicating document authenticity based on fraud detection checks while OCR Score is the confidence level of text extraction accuracy from the document.

Viewing documents

To view documents, click on the document thumbnail in the report. This will open the OCR Comparison modal, which will show the document image and the OCR data on the right. Another column on the right shows the entity data that was entered by the user.

To close the modal, click on the X in the top right corner.

OCR Data

Select the View all OCR data link to view the full OCR data. This will show the OCR data extracted from the document in the OCR Comparison modal. This data is used to compare against the data entered. The OCR data is also used to perform checks on the document. The system will highlight in red any discrepancies between the OCR data, the entity data, and the document image.

Document issues

A summary of the document issues is shown in the report, under the Document report summary section. THe headers with issues are listed. For details on what issues were found, click on the Show full report link.

Additionally, the system will highlight in red any discrepancies between the OCR data, the entity data, and the document image.

Full report

Select Show full report to view the details of the issues found, and listed under the Document report summary section. This will list the document issues related to data consistency, data validation, visual authenticity, image integrity, and compromised document.

Biometrics Check

Biometrics checks are used to verify the identity of the applicant by comparing the photo or video provided by the applicant to the face on the document provided. This is done to prove identity document ownership so that only the owner of the identity document can use it to verify their identity and access services.

Check details

  1. Face checks - Compares facial features from a user’s selfie/video with the portrait on their ID document to verify the person submitting the ID is the same person pictured on it. Includes checks but not limited for face brightness, lenses check, glasses, obstructions, hats, digital spoofing, face evasion, and closed eyes to ensure accurate recognition and prevent fraud. This varies per provider.

  2. Facial liveness check - Verification that confirms a person is physically present during verification by detecting signs of life in a video capture, preventing fraud attempts using photos or deepfakes. This varies per provider.

Check actions

  1. Review check results and selfie images
  2. Resolve biometrics check issues

Interpreting the Results

Results of biometrics checks are either marked with a check mark (green) or an x mark (red). A check mark indicates that the check was successful, while the x mark indicates that the check failed.

Each piece of mismatching information will be highlighted and flagged for review.

Any result may be manually overridden.
